Benches
This series highlights my interest in the link between photography and nostalgia. The benches evoke the image of "Terrain vague" (Man Ray, 1929) by showing spaces that were occupied on a daily basis but are captured by the artist in an empty moment— and remain empty thereafter. Benches are object purposed for human presence, and the absence of humans in these photos emphasizes the theme of nostalgia that photography constantly and actively promotes. The framing of these objects only reinforces this sense of quiet longing: benches meld into the horizon, sink into the shadows of trees, and stare out to sea.
